Planting:
Cucumber plants do not transplant well so it's highly recommended to plant the seeds in peat pots when starting plants early or plant them directly in the garden. When starting cucumbers indoors plant the seeds a few weeks before the last expected frost. Plant seeds in peat pots 1/2" deep. A seedling heat mat and a LED grow light can help speed up seed germination. If you have no grow lights place pots in front of a sunny window. Air temperature should be between 75-80 degrees F.
As your cucumber plants begin to sprout and grow before planting them outside in the garden you'll need to harden them off. This can be done by gradually exposing them to the outside for about a week before transplanting. Transplanting cucumber seedlings should only be done about a week after the last spring frost. When transplanting the outside air temperature should be a consistent 65-75 degrees F. Plant about 2-3 cucumber plants per hill with each hill about 36"-48" apart. You can also plant in rows if you like with one cucumber plant at a spacing of 1' apart. A trellis can also be used to save garden space and have your cucumber plants climb.
Growing & Harvesting Cucumbers
Growing:Always ensure to keep the soil consistently moist as moisture is the key to growing excellent cucumbers. Mulching also helps control weeds as well. Marketmore cucumbers are very disease resistant but you do have to keep an eye out for pests like the cucumber beetle. Cucumber beetles need to be taken care of immediately once they are noticed as they can cause serious damage to your cucumber plants.
Harvesting:
As with many other vegetables if cucumbers are picked consistently through the gardening season, you'll extend the harvest. It helps signal the plant to keep producing and you'll get a high yield. By Planting cucumber plants in the vegetable garden you'll enjoy great tasting cucumbers in just 65 days.
