Juliet Cherry Bush plants are hardy compact dwarf shrubs that was developed by the University of Saskatchewan. These hardy Cherry Shrubs are like small trees perfect for growing in colder climates such as Canada. These cherry plants produce an abundance of large dark red to black cherries with an excellent sweet flavour. The Juliet Cherry Bush is actually known as the Sweetest Sour Cherry variety. Juliet Cherries are great for eating fresh or for baking delicious treats like cherry pies.

Juliet Cherry Bushes

These bush cherries grow about 5-8 feet tall and 5-7 feet wide at maturity. Each cherry bush can produce of to 25 pounds of cherries per plant. These compact dwarf cherry trees are perfect for home gardeners with little gardening space. These hardy cherry trees are extremely cold tolerant down to -40 degrees Celsius. Juliet Cherry plants will start to produce fruit at 2-3 years old. These cherry bushes will meet full production on years 4-5. This is a self-pollinating variety, no other cherry tree varieties are required in order to fruit. High yielding cherry shrubs, excellent harvests. Hardy to zone 2.

Growing Juliet Cherry Bushes

Planting
Juliet Cherry Bush plants grow best in full sun. Be sure to choose the ideal location to plant your cherry trees. They should get at least 6 hours of sunlight for best production, fruit and overall health. Plant cherry bushes in rich, moist, well-drained soil with extra organic material added. It's recommended to add and mix in a generous amount of compost to the soil. When planting cherry plants you'll want to space them at least 5-7 feet apart in rows 10-12 feet apart.

During the growing season water frequently, apply mulch around the plants to maintain moisture and control weeds. You can add a low-nitrogen fertilizer in early spring about 2-3 weeks before your cherry bushes blooms. Do not fertilize any later then July. Cherry trees generally only require the addition of fertilizers only after it starts bearing fruit.


Harvesting
These cherry plants can take 2-3 years before fruiting begins. It's not until year 5 or 6 that you'll reach full production. Juliet Cherry Bush Plants can produce up to 25 pounds of cherries per plant at full maturity. The fruit holds well for at least 3 weeks after ripening.
