Growing & Planting Big Max Pumpkin Seeds

Planting Seeds

Start seeds indoors in peat pots about a month before the last frost. Sow seeds about 1" deep in peat pots. It's recommended to use peat pots when growing pumpkin seeds as they don't transplant well. Harden off your pumpkin plants gradually before transplanting seedlings outside. After danger of last frost, transplant your pumpkin plant seedlings to garden in rich soil and full sun with about 8-10' between pumpkin plants and about 10-12' between rows.

Growing

As with most plants, pumpkin seedlings cannot handle frost. In the event frost is expected you'll need to use a protective covering. When growing pumpkins apply a generous amount of mulch to conserve moisture and control weeds during the growing season. Harvesting

Pumpkins should be harvested before the first frost. This can be done as soon as the stem begins to dry. Pumpkins if stored in the proper location of 45-50F with moderate humidity will last for up to 5 months.
