Planting Seeds

Start tomato seeds indoors in a flat about 6-8 weeks before the last frost. Sow seeds about 1/4" deep, 1" apart and keep soil at 70-75F until germination. Provide natural sunlight or use a LED grow light for 12-16 hours a day. Keep the soil moist. When the outside temperature reaches at least 70F, harden off your plants gradually before transplanting seedlings outside. After danger of last frost, transplant your tomato plant seedlings to garden in rich soil and full sun. Furthermore ensure you space tomato plants 24" apart and about 32"-36" between rows.

Growing

When growing determinate bush type tomato plants there is no need for a support. If you want to, you can if you wish by using a stake. This may offer additional support in windy weather. As your tomato plants grow and you choose to use a stake you can secure your tomato plants to the support with either tomato clips or ties. Again no supports are required, its optional. When growing tomato plants apply a generous amount of mulch to conserve moisture and control weeds during the growing season. Water the plants as needed but most importantly water your tomato plants from below not above. Avoid getting the leaves wet. By doing this, this helps prevent any health issues with your plants.

Harvesting Italian Roma Tomatoes

You'll notice when your italian roma tomatoes are ready to harvest simply by the colour. You should also be able to gently press on the tomatoes and the flesh should yield slightly. These are two indicators letting you know if they're ripe and ready for the picking. When they're red, they're ready to harvest and enjoy! Vine ripened tomatoes taste amazing and so full of flavour! Towards the end of your tomato growing season, you'll want to harvest any green tomatoes when the frost comes. Green tomatoes will ripen if you place them in a warm place out of direct sunlight.
